The Open Gate
The Open Gate
oil on masonite
30" X 40"

SOLD

This is one of the first paintings I ever did without making a detailed drawing first. It is from a thumbnail sketch I made many years ago and I decided it may look nice as a painting. I just penciled the outline and painted it straight from that drawing on the primed masonite. It was so much fun, but it came at a price. When I do the detailed drawing first, I actually have the time to work out all of the color and perspective problems before I start. Here, I had to work them out on the panel, so it took much longer to complete.

As with most of my paintings this is a made up place, it does not actually exist.
